Partnership formed between Patel, Cutright and Thompson, 3 engineers working at Alcoa. Working from basements, nights and weekends, Mark Bennett becomes the first employee.
PCT, Inc. is formed and office space is obtained in Bettendorf, Iowa. Additional staff is hired by mid-year. First major project involves a DCS upgrade at a plastics production facility. Panel assembly work begins.
Company growth includes part-time mechanical engineering support, additional electrical engineering staff, and acquistion of shop space for panel assembly work.
Market focus on aluminum process furnaces established with major preheat furnace controls project. PCT moves to new building at 5433 Tremont Avenue in Davenport, Iowa.

The innovation that is a hallmark of PCT’s identity is exhibited through technology partnerships with manufacturers of incinerators and induction heating systems.
The PCT team develops a breakthrough technology for grit blasting and recovery. Several patents are acquired as a result. This technology is later sold. In September a major fire at an aluminum rolling mill results in an extended deployment of a large team of PCT engineers and technicians. The intensive site work results in re-commissioning the mill within 6 months.
Terry Thompson is invited to participate as a founding member of the Allen-Bradley System Integrator Advisory Council. PCT becomes an active member in the A-B System Integrator program. Also that year PCT is engaged in the development of the first tube mill installation powered by AC vector drives.
Through expansion of the company’s custom machine building capabilities PCT is in a position to design and build multiple turnkey slitters for plastic film. Machines are installed in the U.S. and Europe.
PCT completes the acquisition of the BroadBeam electron beam technology from Bemis Clysar. The company assumes support for the worldwide installed base of machines and begins production of new EB systems.
The company moves into a new building at 8700 Hillandale Road in Davenport. The new facility features 30,000 square feet of manufacturing space that is well suited for the fabrication, assembly and testing of both EB systems and custom machines.
The BroadBeam LE Series is introduced. This new family of EB systems is tailored for use on printing presses, coating and laminating lines. The product is further enhanced by the development of PCT’s integrated chill roll design.
