Control Systems

The application of automation technology has always been a key service provided by PCT. Our staff is well versed on the latest equipment and programming tools.

PLC / PAC

Our team has delivered hundreds of systems that employ a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) or as they are now know PAC (Process Automation Controller). We have generated an extensive library of tools for designing, programming, and testing PLC systems. Our recent work has included the use of simulation software for testing the PLC program and HMI. We are also delivering web-enabled remote monitoring solutions and safety PLC systems.

Hybrid DCS

As the differences between the capabilities of a PLC and a DCS (Distributed Control System) have largely evaporated over recent years, PCT has adopted hybrid DCS platforms for projects that require large numbers of process control loops. Hybrid DCS systems have the capabilities of both a traditional PLC and a DCS. The tight integration of the HMI is another key element of these controllers.

Machine Automation

PCT has the rather unique position among control system providers to be part of a larger organization that also designs and builds industrial machines. This relationship enables our team to deliver complete machine automation solutions. We not only design and provide the electrical controls and drive systems but also the controls for pneumatic, hydraulic, water, natural gas, vacuum systems, etc.

Machine Safety

All of PCT's control system projects consider the protection of both operators and equipment. A significant amount of our project work has been explicitly focused on improving the safety of a machine or process line. We are knowledgeable in the requirements for guarding and interlocking machine operation. We have applied light curtains, safety switches, captured key systems and physical guards for this purpose. PCT has a great deal of expertise conducting projects to address combustion safety for process furnaces and boilers. Our activities in manufacturing electron beam systems have develop our knowledge in radiation safety systems. We have also begun to implement safety PLCs and drives with integrated safety functions.

Upgrades & Refurbishment

Often times a completely new piece of equipment is not required to address additional process requirements. In these situations the PCT team excels at identifying and delivering solutions that enhance the performance of legacy systems. We have the practical experience to know how best to design new components that effectively integrate with an existing process line. The revisions may include modifications to mechanical devices, a new control system, or modern operator stations.

 Upgrade Project Results:

  • Increased production rates
  • Improved operator safety
  • Additional functionality
  • Product quality improvements
  • More maintainable equipment

Refurbishment work can either be performed at PCT's facility or on-site. The scope of PCT's involvement may range from providing one part to planning and executing a complete turnkey project. We have the flexibility to respond to your specific needs.

Design

Working from the design concept and specifications, the PCT Innovation Group delivers mechanical and electrical design services. We are experienced in producing complete custom machine and component designs. Our team also creates electrical design packages that include automation control systems, coordinated drive systems, operator stations, power distribution panels and installation drawings.

 PCT Design Tools:

  • SolidWorks – 3D Design Software
  • Promis•e – Control System Design Software
  • AutoCAD – Design and Documentation Software

Electrical Panel Fabrication Services

PCT's panel fabrication team is experienced in providing our customers with solutions to their electrical control panel assembly needs. We have successfully provided hundreds of industrial control panels in our 20-year history. We are prepared to work from your design or to enhance your sketch with our in-house design and engineering capabilities.

 PCT can provide:

  • Purchasing of necessary components
  • Layout of the subpanel, operator panel or control console
  • Mounting and installation of the components
  • Wiring between components
  • Printing and applying labels to terminal blocks, components, and both ends of all wires to aid in maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Checkout and testing of the control panel
  • Update the documentation set to show the panel “as-built”
  • Delivery of the completed control panel

Each control panel must pass a 17-step quality checklist prior to shipment. PCT’s shop is fully equipped to power-up and operate control systems if required. PCT can also provide panels that meet the stringent U.L. and CE requirements including the complete documentation set.

As part of Team PCT, our panel fabrication group also has access to a full range of engineering, design and mechanical fabrication resources.
